What is Texas Reads One Book?
Texas Reads One Book is a special family literacy event that will bring thousands of families from across the state together to share a selected children’s book.
How does it work?
Every child at participating elementary schools (including McGregor Elementary) will receive a FREE copy of the book and a reading schedule, and Dallas Cowboy's head coach Jason Garrett will read the first chapter of the book via video-cast at a school-wide assembly. Students will follow along and then continue reading the book, one chapter each night, with their families. It’s like a statewide book club that everyone can be a part of!
During the three week event, schools will promote families reading together by enjoying fun activities, daily trivia questions, and discussions, all centered around the story. This comprehensive approach to reading brings the story to life in a unique way as children experience positive reinforcement for literacy at home, at school, and even in the community.
*The Texas Reads One Book Program is sponsored by Read to Them, a national family literacy group which has partnered with TASA (Texas Assoc. of School Admin.) and AASA (School Superintendents Assoc.) in an effort to create a culture of reading in schools and communities throughout Texas.
